Reactions to Oslowski
To start class today, I'd like you to write down -- not as a WNB, but just on a piece of paper -- some of your reactions to Christine Oslowski's student essay on the SATs. What's she trying to communicate, and what are her reasons? What's at stake for her? What does she take as "given"; what unquestioned assumptions does she make? What other positions are there on the topic, and who holds those positions? What are the strong counterarguments that could be made?
Finally, note that "Attention to Audience" is going to be one of the important grading criteria for Essay 3. Who is Oslowski talking to, specifically? How can you tell? What does she want them to do?
